Andy Lee was  in the East End of London and began his amateur boxing career at the Repton Boxing Club in London before returning to Ireland as a teenager and joining the St Francis ABC in Limerick City.

As an amateur, Andy won a host of national and international competitions. He first appeared on the world stage, representing Ireland at the 2002 World Juniors U19 Championships in Cuba and successfully won a silver medal for his country. The talented Lee’s success continued and he won a bronze medal at the European Senior Championships in February 2004 and was Ireland’s sole boxing representative at the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.

In January 2006, the 21 year old Lee left the comfort zone of Ireland to board a plane for Detroit City. Lee entered the unknown with the hope of someday realising his boyhood dream of becoming a professional world champion.
