Conor Murray, the current Players’ Player of the Year, is the latest in a distinguished line of Irish players to be heralded as world-class in their field. Called into the international squad prior to the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Murray quickly established himself as his country’s first choice scrum-half and has since amassed almost 60 caps. One of his most memorable appearances undoubtedly came in Soldier Field, when Murray led Ireland to a historic victory over the All Blacks in November 2016.
Beyond the Test stage, Murray has consistently led the line for Munster and has established himself as a leader of the side. He won his 100th cap for Munster in the Pro12 Final loss to Scarlets in the Aviva Stadium in May 2017. Although disappointed not to have won that game, Murray’s attentions quickly turned to the British & Irish Lions with whom he was touring for the second time. Murray would play an instrumental role in the drawn series against the All Blacks, starting all three tests.
