Ian Madigan

Rugby Player // Bristol Rugby and Ireland

A former Blackrock College wonderkid, Ian Madigan was fast-tracked into the Leinster set-up where he learned the skills of the out-half trade under both Felipe Contempomi and Johnny Sexton. It wasn’t until the end of the 2012//2013 season however that Madigan began to set himself apart from players in his position, winning the Bank of Ireland Player of the Year and PRO12 Golden Boot award to cap a year which saw him play a key role in the province’s Amlin Challenge Cup and PRO12 successes.

Following almost 150 appearances and a Heineken Cup medal for Leinster, Madigan opted for a new challenge with Bordeaux Bégles in 2016. The French, against whom he had made his Irish debut in 2013, always admired his creativity and flair, but he exhibited further substance to his game when he steered Ireland to victory over their gallic opponents in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. However, following an indifferent season in the Top 14, the out-half linked up with former Connacht coach Pat Lam at Bristol Rugby ahead of the 2017/2018 season.
